still trucking...

So its our big first travel since I have started this new adventure of staying active and getting fit. Emma and I are at the in-law's in IN for three days and then Adam is joining up for a wedding in KY....(back to OH by Monday morning). Packed up the bags like normal....I thought about the workout routines I have been in, but thought....nah, I'll be back in a few days. Then I hit myself in the head and changed the thought - noooo excuses! So I packed my own bag full of workout clothes, hand weights, my Ab Ripper dvd, and of course the purple shoes.
It has been a long day and of course there is nothing better than sit around, chat and watch some TV in the evening.....but not giving in....I just finished (11:00pm) a good walk/run in and also did the Ab Ripper. Yay! Everyday is a step closer to proving to my own brain that I can do it, and it can be a way of life. I'm thinking of it as an investment. I'm thinking we save money so we have it for retirement....well, how about 30 minutes of exercise a day to add years to my retirement?!?! A new way to look at it.
love my girls for thier positive role,
J

purple shoe troll....

ok...so had the new shoes for a moth now - LOVIN' THEM. But last week I got a nickle size blister on my left foot!?! Whats the deal with that? Well, it's healed....this morning though....same routine of walking/running with Hank on same 'ol sidewalks and half way through I could feel another blister - this time on my right heal! So don't you think blisters in new shoes would appear in the first week or so of wearing....not a month later of the same routines. interesting. There must be a little shoe troll that comes out at night and is sabotaging my shoes. I would like to call him Lucifer. Not going to let him knock me down though...I'm putting band-aids on and goin' keep going! -hmph-
:)
ps - To add to Sham's $1 Walmart trip, I set out yesterday to take a car seat back to Walmart to return.....skipped Walmart, went to mall bought a dress and matching $5 shoes, stopped at Kohl's for jean shorts, Panara Bread for lunch, Target for a few things, and then and $30 haircut and eyebrow wax. Went home, bypassed Walmart. opps! :) I'm soooo in trouble!

new week.

A new week, and inspired by the shock that I found out last week on the endurance I am actually building, I decided to shorten the walk time between my runs. I am now walking two minutes and running two minutes. Amazingly, I again surprised myself that I could actually breath after 30 minutes of doing this! And conquer 2 1/4 miles. Adam is back in Indy for one more week of training and this time took Emma to his parents house (Just me and the dog!), so yesterday I push mowed the yard, did my two minute training for 30 minutes, stretched, pealed out a good Ab Ripper rotation for 15 minutes and then topped it off with taking hank for a JOG. yes, jog! I am thinking we went one mile....maybe a little less. I think I am going to go buy a pedometer today so I can start measuring this stuff outside.
Keep up all your hard work girls, I know you are all doing wonderful.

Going to Wal-mart for just that one item...$41 later.....

I, too, have never heard a discription quite like that! WOW Heather, you did GREAT on the dress! :) I really can picture it!!!

I had to go to walmart to get diapers. As you may or may not know, it's hard to go into Wal-mart and just get that "one thing" that you went to the store for. I always come out w/ a bunch of crap. Today = not too much crap......I did buy milk, eggs, tampons (stink that I still have to use them this month), washable paint for Josie, tomato soup, two cans of chicken for a casserole and a frozen pizza (it's friday night and that's what we're having).
1. $41 not bad.....I got organic milk and cage-free eggs (pretty expensive on thier own)
2. Of course I made brownies w/ the cage-free brown eggs that I brought home....he he he. I have to have a balance, OR I will go crazy!!! PS -the brownies are GOOD! :)
3. I realized I forgot to get a few things, so I'm going to super Target tonight. he he he. Budget/Smudget.

Getting over it and moving on...

So glad to see that we have this blog thing straightened out - love hearing from all of you. And Heather, may i add that was the best dress description I have ever heard! I think I can even smell it!!! Can't wait to see it in person!

Yay for all the fitness that is taking place - walking, jogging, running....sounds great!
This week has been my toughest so far. Things are just unraveling hormone/health-wise and then there has been a lot of stress evolved from the doctor office....the billing office....dah, dah, dah. Sucks. But trying hard to pull through. A couple fast food meals, a bag of potato chips and a package of cookies helped...well for about the two seconds it took to eat them each! So after reading all your posts, I decided I got to shake this fanny and beat these hormones!

Currently i have been alternating walking and running. It wears me out. I'm thinking, I'll never do this 5K thing. But this morning I decided to see what i could do in a mile. I set my mph to a "jog"....faster than my walk, but slower than my run. WHOA - I DID IT!!! I jogged a whole mile right at 15 minutes. I was TOTALLY shocked! I didn't realize I was actually building up my endurance. 15 min. is a bit long to most runners, but I was ecstatic that I had the endurance to not stop and keep going the whole mile. When I first starting thinking about this 5K thing over two months ago I could not jog for 4 minutes without stopping and passing over. This was the boost I needed. Thanks girls. I am ready to keep going.....and I'm eating good today - Emma and i hit up the farmers market yesterday....yum!

1 mile

Okay, my goal for October is 3 - 10 minute miles. Today I ran 1 - 11.5 minute mile.
Not bad considering I just ran down the block the other day!!! However, I was on a treadmill today at the gym and not pushing a stroller w/ a 30lb toddler in it. I am still pretty happy!!!

IF I don't make 3 - 10 minute miles....I think I will just be happy if I can run the whole 3 miles and not pass out! :)

GO WBG's

Food, Inc.

Hey Girls! I think we finally got this figured out! That's an accomplishment in and of itself! Just wanted to give you a heads up on an interesting movie - especially with our trying to be more healthy...It's called "Food, Inc." It's actually a documentary type movie and it was playing in our "artsy/eclectic" theater downtown. If you can find it, though, it's worth the time - really interesting stuff all about the food we eat - where it comes from, what's in it, etc. It will gross you out, but also open your eyes. Michael and I really want to be more conscientious about what we are eating and who/what it supports...at least until we go to China, and then we'll have to just pray extra hard! Sounds like you girls are all working super hard with your diets and exercise! I've been attempting to eat better along with Michael on his diet, but I admit some days are better than others! My exercise seems to consist of running around doing wedding errands and making phone calls, which although exhausting, probably doesn't burn as many calaories as need be to get into that pretty white dress in December...Jill Billy asked about it - yes, it has been ordered and is due to come in the end of July/beginning of August! It is simple but elegant - strapless with an empire waist, gathered below the wasit/bust with slight pleating, minimally fitted just above the hips, then flowing long and soft - white chiffon, small train, simple vail with white trim, back laces up with a peasant-type look. By the way, working on our wedding website - should be ready in another week or so and then I can pass on the address to share more. Lots of Love, Heather

Whoo hoo!! I'm in!!

Whoo hoo! I can post and be more a part now. Yay!! Thank you Jill for fixin us.

So, gotta hop back on the wagon. I feel like I've tumbled off with this heat (we don't have air conditioning) and my new class I am teaching that I have been so exhausted. My workouts have been lacking. No excuses. I've got to get back in line today. I'll let you know how it goes later.

Sham's sister

My sister called and informed me that she ran 3 miles in under 30 minutes....that is less than a 10 min. mile! I jogged DOWN THE BLOCK and had to stop (of course I was pushing 30 lbs of Josie and 10 lbs of stroller). I am just saying that my sister is ready for the 5K that I am supposed to be getting ready for! :) love her though!!!! She's bringing me a jogging stroller in the next couple of weeks!! :)

PS -she took Josie's 18 month pics (as seen on facebook). She entered them into the fair...she won a blue ribbon on one and "grand champion" on the other!!! It must have been the subject matter..... :)

hard day.

Some days were just made to feel fat and be fat...right? Man, I got all this hormonal crap going on again...calls into doctors...no answers, just more waiting.....waiting on this, waiting on that....so what is a bloated, hot, constipated, depressed gal suppose to do in the meantime?
Well, one thing is for sure - don't go to a gym!!! My chiropractor gave me a 30 day pass to a large gym real close to our house. I thought I would get "out" today and let off some steam (especially from all the emotional calories i have been stuffing in the past 24 hours). So got on a treadmill ......stupid, since I have one here but anyhow.....the half dozen skinny mini girls all RUNNING next to me did not make me feel any better! Seriously, was I the only one there wearing a large and without makeup on? Think I will stick to our basement.
Heading to bed.....just downed a hole bag of popcorn and feel awful about it.
hoping for a better tomorrow, J

Lady in Red.

So discouraging to exercise many days. In fact yesterday I was going to "take a day off". It is always easy to find other things to do, even if it is just for a short ten minutes or so.
...but then I saw the "Lady in Red".
Emma and I had went to town for a minute and on the way home we saw this lady running on the sidewalk. It was the hottest part of the day and she was barely pokin' along and sweating up a storm. She was also....big. Big big. Like way bigger than any of us. But there she was giving it her all. I said outloud as I saw her "YOU GO GIRL!" (of course my windows were up and Emma was the only one that heard me) But that Lady in Red is awesome. She has got it.

So after we got home, I put on the shoes and off I went. Didn't want too, but hey if lady in red has it, so can I......right?....RIGHT! :)
Your lady in purple,
Jill

YEAAAAA!!!!

MISS ALL YOU GIRLS! So glad to have this unique connection even though we are miles apart. There is absolutely nothing like a WB friend!

Get your T-shirts...

Ok, so here's the skinny on t-shirts. I have a friend that is giving us a good deal on a three color print screen so we can just order a few t's at a reasonable price. The shirts will have our sassy WB girls 5K logo with the daisy on it, and you are able to pick the color of shirt you would like. Shirts will be Here is what you will need to do if interested:

STEP 1. Go online at sanmar.com and type item number 2000 in the search. There it gives you a whole lot of color choices.
Keep in mind the logo is white/black/yellow...so choose a color it will show up good one. Here was my conversation with Dana (our printer) on best colors:
Sport Grey (good)
Heliconia (good)
Pistachio (good)
Purple (maybe, black might not show up if you do the deep purple, but it might – you also have violet though that would be good)
Oceana...or Sapphire? (both good)
Jade Dome (good)
What about Tangerine...does it look like a highway worker or more subtle? It is bright, but not pumpkin orange. It is more like highway workerish. It is one of my favorite shirt colors and white and black look great. Not sure how the yellow would show.
What do you think would look the best.
My favorites would be Heliconia, Pistachio, Sapphire and Tangerine.

STEP 2. After picking a color(s), let me know your size. They are adult sizes (I am assuming this means similar to a guy's shirt - let you know if I hear differently)

STEP 3. Decide how many shirts you want and in how many colors. Feel free to order more than one if you want or if you have some honorary friends doing this with you or cheering you on they are more than welcome too! Also if you go back to sanmar.com and search for "2000B" you will see youth sizes and colors. I think I will be getting my little cheerleader, Emma, one. :)

Cool?! I am soooo excited! Lets try to have our order ready by Tuesday, July 21. I will be heading down to Bloomington the week after and hopefully be able to pick them up so Dana won't have to ship them. Once I have them, I will get them to all you girls someway or another, no worries there!
Ok, what are you waiting for, go check out the colors and send me your info! We are so hot...and just getting hotter, let me tall ya!!!!

detoxing

I just got home from spending a few days at my moms. I LOVE IT there....all except for eating. I eat NOTHING but crap while I'm at home! I did have mom pick up some organic yogurt for Josie and I along w/ some fruit....that was it! I feel yuckie. Besides that, I so do loving going to moms and watching my nephews run around Josie!
Jason got home last night and will be home unitl Monday morning! I love when he's home (of course he went into work for a couple of hours right now), but at least he's "here" in indy.
I told him that while he still has a job, I am going to go to the running store and get a "good" pair of shoes. My running shoes are about 3 years old. They are find for working out at the gym or for walking w/ Josie, but I think I need a good pair if we are going to get more serious about running. I'll see if he wants to take me while he's home this weekend or if Josie and I will go later this week.
I spoke w/ my sister....she is training WAY more than I am! She's been running now for 3 weeks. I have been so off and on....more OFF than on though.
I think once I get the shoes in place, I'll be ready to go! My sister is also bringing me her jogging stroller since I have to take JC w/ me when I run.
I am getting nervous and excited at the same time about actually running the race. I know that is the goal, but it makes me anxious all the same! I have always valued fitness and working out...I now value "health". I am pumped to have my girls w/ me on this!!!
Thanks Jill for the encouragment to stay healthy!!!!! :)
Speaking of health, I am going to catch a MUCH needed nap before JC wakes up!!! Sleep is all part of the healthy process!!!!! :)

Kick Butt Deals.

Found some kick butt deals at the grocery. I know doesn't take much to excite me, aye?!?!
In the quest to not just lose some weight, but become more healthy overall, I have begun to shop differently. I always thought shopping for "healthy" foods was more expensive. Not so much. By the time I had cut out buying the frozen pizzas, the mac 'n cheese and the chips, I have realized I had more $$ to buy apples, blueberries, etc. So that was step one.
Step two was realizing that organic produce doesn't always cost more either....one day avocados were exactly the same price....and just last week the organic apples were on sale cheaper than reg. ones.....so why not?

This week was my big kick butt purchases though. I got an organic gallon of milk (reg. $7!) for $1.50! Yea!!! Now is does expire by the end of the week, but i am all about using my freezer! And organic yogurt for 80 CENTS! It was a SIX PACK!!! Again about ready to expire, but Emma and I found out putting yogurt in the freezer is a yummy summer treat - taste like ice cream! Both of these were less money than the regular brands that have all the hormone and unnatural perservatives in them.
I found more of these steals and of course did my normal price matching and coupon games, but won't bore with all the details. Just excited....i feel like our home is getting more healthy everyday.

Sweat.

How can one sweat so much, eat like a rabbit, and still go UP on the scales?!?! You can only say "well muscle weighs more than fat" for so long!!!! Hopefully it will turn around soon. For right now, I'm blaming it on hormones and the medicine world! :)

Carrie, did you get the shoes? I hope!

Hey all - here is another site with some good info on it.....straight from the land of the Cream and Crimson. (go IU.)

movin' movin' movin'....

.....no, we're not moving again - at least not till next spring. ;)
but the WB Girls are movin'.......movin' on the Get Fit Train! Just noticed Carrie's comment on Friday's post that said she has been a busy bee not able to work out, but was able to slip in some DVDs at home and a stroller ride on the beach - that' a girl, Carrie! (and she has recruited two friends to join our 5K goal...Kristy, who lives in Indiana, and Estelle, in California as well as inspired people from her work. )

Hank and I hit the sidewalk this morning. The knee isn't up to par yet, but I jogged lightly every-other block, walking the others. However, it is just us girls here today so Emma and I hit the parks in our cute little town. She played for over two hours while I circled the playground walking. Of course I did have to break to give a few pushes to this adorable blond princess on the swing. Anyhow, figure those extra steps can only just burn more calories. I am so ready to be (what I call) "fit"!
Looking forward to hearing from all,
Jill

5K info sites...

The store where I got my shoes gave me this http://www.premierraces.com/ It is geared towards Ohio runners/walkers with listing of events and races. However if you look on the left side there is some other valuable info. I was drawn towards the "Pace Calculator" - when clicked on it takes to you a page that will help you calculate your pace and your pace goal...interesting.

Carrie found this site http://www.coolrunning.com/ There is TONS of info there....click "training" on the top tab, then "new runners" on left in yellow. Here you will see "the couch-to-5K Running Plan" COOL! I can handle that! There is also more good stuff there too.

Any others anyone may find please share! Also Kudos! to Shammy....she has recruited one of her brothers, her hubby and one of her sisters to run a 5K w/ her by October!!!! Any others out there????? :) Can't wait to start posting pictures of us going across that finish line!
cheers, Jill

Not givin' into the clock.

First off - Yeah a new post from a WB-er! Yippee!! Keep 'em coming, I love the overflow of encouragement!

So had a Chiro apt. this morning at a whopping 8:30! Instead of letting Emma be my normal alarm clock, I set the real alarm for 6:20. I would have loooooved to lay there, but instead got my aching body out and hit pavement! I've made it my vow to NOT let my brain give me any excuses anymore. And as much as I hated rolling out that early (yes early for me) I felt sooooo good after the sweaty walk of two miles. Still sore, but getting that worked out. Chiropractor helped...and PRAISE JESUS for insurance. It's been awhile since we had one of those cards...I could not have felt more blessed today for Adam and his job.

So I have some website of 5K training and info. Will gather it all up this evening and post it on here for everyone to use.
Keep in touch!
Jill

Yes Jill, we can post

I just now figured out that on the top right hand side of the screen is the post button. WOW i am so smrt. he he he

grrrrrrrrr....

....frustration arises.
Still sore in the knee and ankel, therefore decided to do the Ab Ripper workout today instead of jog. I have been doing it consistently for a week or so now. Within 60 seconds into it, I pulled/ripped/whatever a lower ab muscle (the ones that I REALLY need to work). So that blew that!

So here I am, unable to exercise...exactly how does that help the weight loss goal? grrrrr. Not to mention I am currently back on some medication to get "things" going again. There is never anything good that comes from that. In fact this weeks weigh-in was a weight GAIN. Welcome to my world. So frustrating. What to do, what to do? Not looking forward to the next few months in my "trying to stay positive" medical world.
Needin' my girls,
J

Zoo-zercise?

So the knee is still not up to par. Tried to walk on treadmill today for an "easy and gentle" mile....took me 17 minutes. :( So for some extra calorie burning, Emma and I packed up our veggies and headed to the zoo for a picnic lunch followed by some site-seeing. We strolled a good two hours around the park....hopefully getting in the few extra steps today will pay off.

Baked fish last night. Something this household never eats.....wasn't bad. We're trying! :)
Going to go grill some chicken and veggies for tonight.

How is everyone else? Finding that precious time in your days? Thinking of you all!
Jill

ewwwwOUCH!

Ok, so maybe I'm rushing this running thing....my "good" knee is killing me. Think I may have strained it or something. So taking it down a notch. Just walked today and even that was a bit uncomfortable......any WB nurse or PT have any suggestions? :) I'm eager to get back on it with some heavier speed.

Speaking of heavier, I'm guessing the HUGE chocolate peanut butter ice cream in chocolate dipped waffle cone I had last night wasn't the best for weight loss, aye? But MAN WAS IT GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes a woman just needs her chocolate.
-Hugs-

You can do it Shammy!

Sham - just read your comments....Sleep is important too!!!! As long as we do what we can, when we can, God will provide the rest - right? RIGHT! ;) Today is packed for us, so a 10 minute power walk of walking/running was all I could get in....better than nothing I say!

Regarding the treadmill - we got ours at Sears when Adam was working there. Do you have any friends that work there that are willing to loan a nice employee discount? Don't forget that many places will price match and then give a 10% discount of the difference. I will ask Adam if he has any ideas - he seems to have connections everywhere!

Keep on keeping on!!!!
Jill
p.s. can any other WBG actually "post" instead of just comment? I'm afraid I'll miss something on the comments - feel free to fill the pages up with postings if you can! Love and Miss you girls!

Dancing Queen...

Raining this morning, so I was sent to the basement for this mornings walk/jog on the treadmill. Using Adam's I-Pod I was sweating to "MAMA MIA" soundtrack. (Yes, Adam is well rounded when it comes to music - wink wink) Couldn't help but think of the college days and envisioned these songs being sung with five girls and their cardboard roll microphones. Ya know laughing can really tone those ab muscles. hee heee heeeeee
Keep singin',
Jill
